I’m doing something a little different with this batch of monthly favorites! I’m always testing out new products for the baby to find the safest and cleanest, best performing items and I thought why not share what emerges as favorites here. So now baby Lydia has her own monthly favorites series!
Babies have a TON of skin needs actually (especially with sensitive and eczema prone skin like her) so I figure we’ll be trying out a lot of products as the years go by. She obviously can’t speak for herself on how well these products work but I know she trusts my judgement haha. Lydia is 10 months old now and we’ve been using all of these products since birth so they are definitely tried-and-true favorites. Read on to see what we’ve been loving for baby girl’s skin:
Earth Mama Organics Sweet Orange Castile Baby Wash
This is our go-to hair and body wash for baby. I’ve tried a handful of others but for a wiggly baby with a short attention span this is the winner. The main reason is that it’s a foaming cleanser that requires no lathering. You can use just one hand to pump and apply product. With lathering soaps I generally found I needed to used two hands to work the lather leaving no hands on baby. The foam is also nice because I can just pump out a small amount of product at a time for each section of cleaning so I feel like it cuts down on product waste. Plus a foam can be fun for older kids since they can form it into beards and funny hair-dos or whatever kids do these days.
I’ve tried this scent and the lavender and I like this scent the best. It’s light and not over-powering. It smells sweet and fruity- like a creamsicle- very nice! It has a simple, clean and all organic ingredient list that’s full of ingredients that are gentle and soothe skin like coconut oil, olive oil and shea butter. The only downside is that castile soap ingredient is not tear-free so you just have to be careful to not get in their eyes. Because it’s a foam it spreads well and feels like it’s cleaning skin really well. A big plus side to this soap is you can buy it in a 34oz liter sized bottle which saves money and plastic. I actually found a super deal for a 2 pack on Amazon so watch out for that!
I love, love, love this stuff. It’s a sleep balm you can apply before bed to moisturize skin and encourage a more restful sleep. Not only does Lydia have dry, sensitive skin, but she had trouble calming for sleep in the beginning. Thankfully the sleep trouble has subsided but we continue to use this balm as it creates a nice bedtime ritual and beside that, smells really, really good! I would use this for myself too, but always end up forgetting it in her nursery.
This sleep balm was designed specifically for children in mind and features chamomile and lavender oils that are known to calm, relax and soothe the senses along with sandalwood, mandarin and spearmint oils that create such a wonderful scent. It’s also certified organic and made with olive oil, beeswax, castor seed oil and aloe for hydrating skin. It’s wonderful for a pre-sleep massage and glides effortlessly on skin, no pulling. We put this on her chest, shoulders and feet so the aromatic effects will be maximized. It really does smell calming and so perfectly “bedtime”. I always hope that she will remember this scent for the rest of her life and associate it with restfulness, we’ll see!
Several months back when the gal decided to start sleeping on her stomach her little diapers started filling more on the front side overnight and ended up irritating her sensitive skin. This was the diaper cream we had that worked the best to heal up the irritation and create a barrier to protect her skin from future problems. It worked really well to clear up any problems quickly within just a few days. We use it every night to prevent any future issues and only need a little bit each time.
It’s a plant based cream made with kakadu plum, sunflower seed oil, grape seed oil, castor seed oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil and shea butter that combine to make it ultra hydrating while zinc oxide helps create a barrier and heal things up. It’s a thick cream that’s intended to stay on the surface of the skin so it can get a bit messy, but not bad especially since you can just squeeze it right out of the tube. It has no scent and nothing that should irritate sensitive skin.
And that’s it for Lydia’s October favorites. If you thought it was fun to see the baby’s faves, let me know! I’m going to try and keep up with posting these as it’s fun to include my mini-me in on the blog.
