I’ve got a new batch of sample reviews for ya! This one is oranges just in time for Halloween. And don’t these look just like little candies – it’s what I’d like to find in the trick-or-treat candy basket for sure. I mean I love candy, but like I’ve said before, samples are my favorite thing and I’ve been trying to cut down my sugar intake anyway. If anyone knows of where they have adult trick-or-treating where this is the kind of loot you’d come away with be sure to let me know haha!
Speaking of being all healthy and stuff, my color fact for you this time has nothing to do with candy and everything to do with fruits and vegetables. Did you know that cooler weather is responsible for an orange’s skin turning orange? In hotter weather climates the chlorophyll stays and the fruit remains green. Also did you know that originally the most common color for carrots was purple? Apparently the orange color came about in the 17th century when Dutch growers crossbred a few different carrot varietals. Intriguing! Now here’s a few more intriguing things, my sample reviews:
1 – Edgewater Candles Cedar Lavender
This isn’t my normal type of sample, but it’s not a full size item so it counts! I like candles for sure, but the scent on this one is a bit too strong or masculine for me. It’s kind of crisp and outdoors-y but a bit floral too. It seems like it would be a nice scent for a man to wear. I can’t help but keep thinking of Abercrombie and Fitch when I smell this, probably not at all the same scent, but you know how that store smells nice but it can be overwhelming and also has a manly hint to it? It reminds me of that. The scent definitely throws well when burning, but for me I prefer a softer aroma. The scent does linger nicely after extinguishing too.
Would I buy: I really like Edgewater candles so I’d buy a different scent, not this one though.
2 – Weleda Arnica Muscle Massage Oil
I actually bought a full size of this before using this sample because I forgot I had it. Good thing I like it haha! This is a warming muscle massage oil infused with arnica. Arnica is said to relieve tension and reduce inflammation. I’ve been using it on sore muscles at night before bed. I think it’s been helping to soothe them. It definitely doesn’t make pain disappear but it helps, plus it feels nice to get a massage. The consistency of the oil is perfect for a massage. The oil absorbs well into skin and isn’t too greasy feeling. It smells great and relaxing too. It doesn’t say which essential oils it’s made with but it smells bright and soothing.
Would I buy: Yep! Already did!
3 – Weleda Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash
This is a really nice body wash. It’s creamy and has a nice consistency. It lathers well too. I just used it with my hands but I’m sure it would work well with a loofah or washcloth too. It feels moisturizing on my skin, or at least not drying. It has a soft, cozy citrus scent which is really nice.
Would I buy: I really don’t use body wash often, but if I bought body wash I’d buy for sure.
4 – Acure Brightening Facial Scrub
This is kind of a cheater because I’ve definitely used this one before- it’s not my first trial at all. In fact, this product is a staple in my routine. I use it at least twice a week at night after washing my face. They changed the formula from when I originally found this product but I still love it. It’s kind of a creamy scrub but is definitely more scrub than cream if that makes sense. Ingredients are great and include sea kelp with super-nutrients to soften and detox, lemon peel and French green clay that cleanse and Madonna lily to bring brightness to skin. I lightly scrub around my face and it leaves my skin feeling smoother. I can tell a difference in my skin’s texture when I go to apply moisturizer afterwards.
Would I buy: Yes! I’ve bought several tubes already.
5 – Kjaer Weis Lip Gloss in Courage
I love this color! It looks really bright in the tube, but applies more neutral. It’s a light coral color on lips and brightens natural lip color. You could apply heavier for more opaque coral color too. It has a hint of shimmer and a good gloss level- it’s not too much but just enough. It’s not sticky and feels moisturizing.
Would I buy: Yes, I like this color a lot- reminds me of summer!
I’m not pregnant currently, but did try this product during pregnancy (I had a couple of samples of it). For this time I just tried on arms and shoulders since that’s where I have extra dry skin. My skin was itchy and tight before applying and using this made it feel soothed and hydrated. It’s a rich oil so it feels a tiny bit thick but not in a bad way. Maybe the only downside to the richness is that it makes it a bit harder to spread across skin. It smells nice, maybe a bit nutty? I like that the ingredients are all organic and I really like that the full size comes in a pump bottle as not having to hold a bottle to get more product is key when applying body oil.
Would I buy: Yes, I would definitely buy if pregnant every again.
This serum has a gel-like consistency (probaly due to the addition of aloe). It’s not sticky at all and rubs into skin well. A little goes a long way with this one so I imagine the full size would last forever. It has no scent that I could detect which is nice. It says to use at night so I put on after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizing. It felt almost matifying? Like not dry but not greasy at all. My main concern was if it would break my skin out, but there were no breakouts in the morning. It says this is supposed to help skin tone be brighter and more hydrated. My skin felt hydrated after use and maybe it looked brighter?
Would I buy: This one is a maybe, I think the sample warrants a bit of a longer trial before deciding.
This is a silicone free primer which made me intrigued to try it out since SO many primers include silicone and it’s an iffy ingredient when trying to heal acne. I did a test area on my nose bc was worried about full face breakouts. It’s a thicker cream with a rich feel. A little goes a long way with this one so it would likely last forever. It smells a tiny bit like berries, bright berries maybe? The scent isn’t too strong though. It absorbed well for how creamy it felt and it does almost get matte or almost like how a silicone primer feels on the skin. The foundation I use is dryish or dries fast and this actually helped make the application easier. My foundation looked smoother and I think even my pores look less noticeable.
Would I buy: I wasn’t really in the market for a primer, but I would consider this one, definitely over a silicone based one.
That’s all for now! Another orange batch of samples coming your way soon. And if you’re interested in previous sample reviews you can check out my red stash here and my pink stash here.
