I’ve been struggling to find the perfect spot treatment. I want something that is easy to apply, doesn’t cause drying, reduces redness, smoothes my skin, flatten zits, and make blemishes disappear instantly. Poof! Like, I’m just over here looking for real life magic, is that to much to ask for? I guess so, as I’m finding that discovering the perfect spot treatment is as elusive as getting a glimpse of the lochness monster. I keep hearing its out there but I have yet to find it myself. I have two on rotation right now that I think I like (but admittedly don’t have the “poof!” factor) so I thought I’d share my what I’m using and see if anyone else out there has other good recommendations. Who ever thought as a teenager that zits would still be a hot topic in the 30’s? Not this lady. But here I am a grown ass woman still battling the blemish. So in addition to trying to regulate my hormones from the inside (which is near impossible to do while on fertility medication btw) I’ve got to have some soothers to try and tame the redness and pain in the meantime. These are my two go-to’s at the moment:
Angel Face Botanicals: Blemish Soother Acne Spot Treatment Serum
This spot treatment packs a punch with 16 potent botanicals that work together to combat fussy skin while proving healing and soothing properties.
Key Ingredients include:
- Tamanu oil (promotes healing and is good for scaring)
- Blue Chamomile (calms and reduces inflammation)
- Lemon Myrtle (antibacterial & antiseptic preventing bad bacteria growth)
- Tea Tree and Bergamot (both antiseptic)
- Lavender and Frankincense (promote cellular renewal)
- Clary Sage (balancing)
- Chamomile (calms & soothes)
- Argan oil (regulates sebum production & helps promote healing)
- Hazelnut oil (gentle, yet astringent to help unclog pores)
- Aloe Vera (soothes, mosturizes and is antibacterial)
I like this one because I feel like it visibly reduces blemishes by morning. I roll it on after moisturizing at night over any problem areas and following a good night’s sleep I can see less redness and bumps that have shrunk. Now, don’t get me wrong, like I mentioned above this won’t completely clear things overnight but it does a good job moving things in the right direction. Sometimes I feel like oils for the face can leave me feeling more skin-congested but there are enough ingredients with astringent properties in this spot treatment that work to keep pores clean. Because of that I do not at all find this increasing my breakouts or making anything worse that it was before. I find the scent appealing and although a bit strong, it’s not off-putting. It’s fresh, earthy and herb-y. The application is a breeze since the 1/3 oz size comes in a roll on and it lasts a long time since you only need a dab on each problem area. If you’re curious but don’t want to commit yet, sample sizes are available too.
Evanhealy: Blemish Purifying Serum
This certified organic spot treatment has similar properties to the above and works hard to clear impurities while it also soothes. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin and won’t cause irritation.
Key Ingredients include:
- Apricot Kernel oil (high in vitamin A, easily absorbed, moisturizes)
- Rosehip Seed Fruit oil (full of antioxidants, hydrates)
- Jojoba Seed oil (anti-inflammatory, soothes skin)
- Rosemary Verbonone Flower oil (antiseptic properties, protects cells from free radical damage)
- Thyme Thymol oil (protects from harmful bacteria, helps heal skin)
- Palmarosa oil (hydrates and helps balance sebum)
- Sea Buckthorn Seed oil (fully of antioxidants, helps heal skin)
- Cinnamon Leaf & Bay Laurel Leaf oils (antiseptic and antimicrobial)
So the other spot treatment has been my long time go-to but it has one small ingredient that I was looking to temporarily avoid so that’s how I came across this spot treatment from Evanhealy. This spot treatment does not include clary sage which, while is fantastic for helping to balance skin by regulating oil production and reducing inflammation, it should be used cautiously while trying to get pregnant or if you know you are pregnant as it is thought to have properties that aid in contracting the uterus. Now that feature is fine for say, 40 weeks into pregnancy and you want to get the baby outta there but not when possibilities are or hopefully are beginning. Since I’ve been going through infertility treatments for some time, I decided to be better safe than sorry and only use the first spot treatment in the pre-ovulation part of my cycle or when I’m not doing any type of treatment. That said, this spot treatment has satisfied me just as much as the other. I also see reduction in redness and inflammation after nighttime application. It’s lightweight and has a nice scent too – earthy, with a bit of warm spice and sweetness. As recommended, only a small amount of product is needed to do the trick so even though this roll-on is smaller than the other it also lasts quite a long time too.
If you happen to have found the magic spot treatment that instantaneously erases those spots then do tell! But since we all know that doesnt exist, tell me what works for you in the mean time.
